When the headliner, Crash Encore, came on it seemed there was the least amount of people for the night at that moment. In this regard, singer John Bishop came on over dressed in my opinion. Somehow his Hindu shirt with his vest and nicely tied scarf seemed too much. He eventually did lose the scarf, but gained a hat for a moment. Someone named Dustin brought him it. He said it was his lucky hat and that he played better with it on. It fell off mid song, but his guitar did not explode. He reminded me of a grown up Hanson brother. One guitarist seemed out of place, looking like the type to be an accountant or something similar and he was late coming on. Maybe he was doing someone's taxes, I'm not sure. The bassist had a mass of hair and small nose and lip rings. The drummer with his striped shirt and face made me think of a French sailor. The keyboardist wore a tie that seemed solid red from far away and a black shirt, giving me some green day vibes, but it turned out his tie had some shapes on them. The music had somewhat falsetto singing, but it had a distinctive style to it. It worked well with piano style which was the kind they did for black and white movies before real sound was used. Appropriately enough there were projector images that included black and white movies, real and cartoon, on a small screen on one side of the stage. One song that was a little upbeat went the other way lyrically with the line, "Everyone is out to get you and there is nothing you can do about it." Another song described by Bishop as mellow and introspective had the line "the ship is going down" and another band member came on laughing saying, "The ship is definitely going down." It was said in a way almost describing the band itself.Later they let us know they are writing a song a week and anyone can sign up to get access to the music. The bassist said, "They're all good." Bishop replied, "Well they're free..." A couple songs later the bassist apologized for not talking much but they came to pay music and then played the flute. On the last song he has some technical difficulties with his bass. It kept cutting out, but luckily it was the last song.If you like Bishop's singing style and indie music, then you should love this band. They had plenty of well done songs and if they make a song a week at this quality then we are in for a ton of good music. I know I'm looking forward to it. My one major complaint is there was no actual crash encore, or any encore at all in fact. I am very disappointed.
