The band started off with an instrumental that showed the crowd this is a good group of players. Unfortunately, the next couple of songs lost me, but they pulled it back together after that. Meshell did a cover of Joy Division’s “Wilderness.” It was really good and I’m not familiar with the song. The rest of the songs were ok. There were some really good moments throughout the gig, but none of the songs really grabbed me. Except for the lyric “Don’t be a *** when you drink” in the song “Lola” near the end of the set. That caught my attention.  I believe the sound mixing took away something from the music. The drums were overwhelmingly loud during the whole set. You could barely hear the guitars. (And there were two of them). Speaking of the drums, Charles (the drummer) was really good, but had a lot of off moments throughout the set. He would come off the beat and when he came back it usually wasn’t pretty. He nailed the encore song though. It was super tight.
