My girlfriend is a fan of Missy's and wanted to go to this show. So, I decided to listen to her album (On a clear night) a couple times before the gig. It's good. I felt as if she has a similar vocal to one of our own San Diego artists: Tristan Prettyman. Several songs made me feel that way, but the one that sealed the deal was track 11 (Forgive me). When I heard the song I immediately thought of Tristan's demo which has four songs on it. It was recorded at home and it's very raw and emotional. (Forgive me) has that vibe.

Missy put on a great show with funny banter in between the songs. You know how certain groups of people have a stereotype? For example, the French are considered rude. Well, I think the stereotype that applies to Australians is good natured with a great sense of humor. Missy certainly fit that bill. The songs that highlighted the performance for me were Warm Whispers, Run So Fast (which was a song she wrote for a movie), Secret, and Where I Stood. A few of those songs tug on the heart strings especially the way she delivered them live. Peachy was good too. Check her out, you won't be disappointed.

I'm a big Missy Higgins fan, so was glad she came to San Diego. I first learned about her several years ago when she opened for Liz Phair. During that concert it was most acoustical with guitar and/or keyboard only. This concert she had a full band. She sounded great. She has the ability to silence the crowd with some of her more haunting melodies - which is a rare feat. Seems like audiences these days talk through shows which bugs the hell out of me......but I digress. She is definitely great live, as she varies up her songs a little and you don't feel like you are listening to the exact copy of a CD. I hear she will be back on tour next year, with Justin Nozuka. Not sure if she is opening for him or vice versa. I don't see San Diego listed, but she is definitely worth checking out of she is in your town.

I'm glad you liked my Belly Up youtube video. Nice review. I think she's similar to Tristan too. Try finding her song "Unbroken." I used to think that song and Tristan's "Love Love Love." They sound the same though the content is different ... but the melody is pretty similar.
