“Not bad for a Wednesday night,” Ryan Bingham gives a rousing invite to an already pumped up crowd. He holds up a shot of Jack provided by a couple of pretty ladies and gives a whiskey grin, “Here’s to us, fuck everybody else!” Everyone raised their drinks and cheered to Bingham’s toast. Needless to say, they were all ready to have a great time. Listening to Ryan Bingham’s most popular track “Southside of Heaven” from his last release Mescalito is reminiscent of, what many say, Bruce Springsteen during his country days. Bingham’s lyrics are wildly imaginative and the music is nostalgic of pure Americana. Yet when you see him live, it’s as if he were channeling Hank Williams Jr. and all his rowdy friends. Rock ‘n roll fun and a beer-chuggin’ good time. Bingham fans were treated to new material from his upcoming June release. But songs like “Sunshine” and “Take It Easy Mama” were definite crowd-pleasers of the night. Roadside country, bar room blues, or just plain rock, Bingham’s style is rebellious and raucous with an underlining bit of sweet nature. Kind of like two teenagers making out for the first time but up in the church choir loft. This is the first time I have seen Ryan Bingham perform and it certainly won’t be the last. As I raised my own glass of Seagrams to toast, damn straight Mr. Bingham, not bad for a Wednesday night.
