Opening Act For The Breeders

I first saw Colour Revolt last month at the South by Southwest music festival where they played at Spiro's Amphitheater. They delivered a really strong/passionate performance despite the lack of a stage. At one point I couldn't even see one of the guitar players; he was hidden behind a stack of amps. Their soon to be released album "Plunder, Beg, and Curse" was available at the merch booth so I bought a copy. Since the music festival, I've listened to it about 5 or 6 times. I like it...a lot. So, needless to say, when I saw they were coming to San Diego it was a no brainer.

Well, this concert was even better than the SXSW gig. The band came out and nailed it. All the pieces came together nicely. The drummer was a mad man. That guy wailed away like no one's business. The sound at Canes was far superior to Spiro's. Although, the "light show" was lacking, this is a downside to being an opening band. (They seem to save all the good shit for the headliner.) It certainly didn't take away from the performance.

The crowd was receptive and gave ample applause during the show I just wished they could have played to the house when it was almost full like during the Breeders set. Maybe in a year or two they will be the headliner playing to a full house. Hell, I'm pulling for you.

I picked up their self titled EP after the show and listened to a few songs this afternoon. It feels a little different than Plunder so far, not in a bad way, but I need several complete rotations before having a real opinion. It's funny cause while Plunder was just released, I'm already looking forward to their next album.

If you like Rock music then check out Colour Revolt. They're on tour now.

These guys were the opener at The Breeders show here in San Diego. I didn't know them at all and wasn't all that impressed. It was hard to decipher most of their stuff and if given time who knows, I might love their music. But overall it was a little too much of a "wall of sound" effect for me. I think it mainly comes from being totally unfamiliar with the songs.

The frontman might be a good singer, but I have no way of knowing. He did very little singing from what I could tell. I even joked to my friend, "Sing it don't scream it.". You get the idea. The whole band seemed to have pretty sufficient musical skills. Maybe they just need more time together. They did have one song that I remember thinking sounded good. Oh and it's probably worth noting that their drummer hits the skins harder than anybody I've ever seen. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it's true. He fucking wails on 'em.
