Went to Canes in Mission Beach to see Helmet. I've anticipated this show for years since when I went to see them in Orlando as the headliner they missed the show and I only got to see the two opening acts (Ministry and Sepultura). The opening band was Fluff, some of the members of Reeve Oliver. Good opening act. The second band was Fireball Ministry from LA. They were the surprise of the night and I was completely impressed by the rock and roll, blues, and straight up metal they played that sounded great. Opening before Helmet was Mondo Generator. They were pretty good. A mix between metal and punk/hardcore. Some songs sounded familiar and I realized that the lead singer/guitar player was the former guitar player of Queens of the Stoneage. Since he had written some of their songs I guess he got to used them during his shows. Pretty good, but not amazing. Then Helmet came on. They played a full set of one of their recent albums. Really good. But what took me back is when they started playing songs from their early 90's album Meantime. I loved that album and those songs got everyone even more fired up. Great show! Canes is always a blast to see shows at.
