The Breeders are one of those bands from the 90's that were fairly popular, but I never really dug into their music. Of course, I know the single that put them on the mainstream map..."Cannonball." And yes, they played it, but it wasn't the only song that the crowd knew. With the exception of the new songs a good majority of the audience were familiar with most of the set.

The Deal sisters were having a great time on stage. It's always nice to see artists enjoying themselves. So, even though I wasn't familiar with their music I definitely enjoyed the performance. Along with the performance of the guy in front of me who used his hands and arms in a sort of interpretive "dance." Of course, he lost a couple performance art points because he was holding his "blackberry" in his left hand. Nerd.

The Breeders changed the age range of the crowd to be a little more balanced. It was cool to see a lot of people showing up that were closer to mid-late thirties (so I didnt feel so old). I was suprised to see that the Breaders had not only maintained a loyal fan base but had also gained the admiration of the 'college kids" as well.

I was at this show! I was a big fan of The Breeders back in the day. I wore out Last Splash, then got Pod (their debut album) which is totally different and way more raw but I loved it, too. I also think Pacer is an awesome album (which Kim Deal for some reason did under the name The Amps, but same difference). I haven't gotten their new album but I was still stoked to see them live...finally! It was kind of bizarre seeing them in concert after having been a fan for, shit, 15 years already??

I thought the show was really good. They played 4 or 5 songs off the new album - everything else was old stuff so I knew it all. They sounded pretty good which was a relief because I had heard a couple negative reviews of their past shows. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits, especially Kim and her sister Kelly. That resonated back and forth between the band and the audience. I could tell there were lots of old-school Breeders fans there like me.

It was also my first ever show at 'Canes. I don't know exactly why I had never been there, but I hadn't. Pretty cool little venue.
