Opening Act For Daniel Johnston

Brooklyn band, The Hymns came on stage and every member was the epitome of their role.  There was the wild and fun lead guitarist, Jason Roberts, the tall silent bassist, Joey McClellan, keeping his low profile under his beanie.  The lead singer, Brian Harding, had his Beatles' haircut and a slight dark side, though the drummer, Tony Kent, seemed a little out of place being clean cut and dressing plain.  The first song was not bad, but I was really getting into it by the second song.  There was some good harmonies going on and that was when I noticed the lead guitarist.  He was very nimble with his hopping around and foot tapping.  He was like a spring.

The third song was on par with the first two, but not as catchy to me personally.  Before they played the next one it sounded like they were talking bad about the Belmont Fair Rollercoaster.  Roberts said that it went just a little faster than their van.  The following song was different than those before, being mellow.  Still, Roberts was hopping around.  The next song was new and and still different again.  It was a twangy tune, appropriately titled, "Big Boots."

The second last song was very catchy and the ending one had them singing high, but it was not as good as the former.  Still, the whole set was very solid.  I had not been entertained this constantly by a band in a long time.  They were an awesome opener.
