It was definitely College night at the Casbah, with everyone dressed in button down Oxford shirts and cardigans. Standing in the crowd I felt like I could have been on an episode of “The Hills.” However Army Navy, who opened the set for the Broken West and French Kicks, delivered a surprisingly good performance. They fall under the indie/college rock genre, with a fun sound reminiscent of 90’s alternative rock/early Beatles. The sound is simple but good, and the lead singer’s voice sounds something like Bob Dylan mixed with a girl who sings bit more on pitch. Their song “Slight of Hand” was featured on the “Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist” soundtrack, and they performed a cover of Maxine Nightingale’s “Get Right Back.” They were a delightful surprise--highly energetic, with a good sense of humor.
