Aspects of Physics is an instrumental experimental San Diego band.  Founded in 2000 by ex-members of the band Physics, they have been around a while and it is always nice to see them play.  Their set up began as usual with a large white sheet clipped to hang against the back wall for the projector.  During the show there would be various images shown including but not limited to: clouds, cars, and stripes moving horizontally downward. 

There was Rob Crow (of Pinback and many other bands) musical equipment on stage and sure enough he came up and did some shadow puppets while the projector was on and someone made a much larger puppet since they were closer to the machine and tried to eat his smaller shadow.  The band started soon after, though I was hoping for a longer puppet show.

The first song was very delicate and beautiful, but rocked at the same time.  The next was bass heavy at first, but flowed into a more videogame type of tone.  Before the next one, a band member asked for the lights down a hair but they turned them down a whole fro.  He said, "Whoa, not that down.  I just don't want to feel like I'm getting pulled over."  The song had a similar feel to the last one, but was more haunting and now my skin was vibrating from the bass.

I noticed the drummers "Scum bag" tattoo after the song and his hat that said "scum" along with the bass drum that also said "scum".  I don't want to jump to conclusions but I think he may be scum.  More likely though it is music related.  The next one was a little more noticeably repetitive, but was still good.  On the sixth song they asked, "Sound guy, are you also the time guy?  How much do we have?" After a little discussing they figured they could play two more. 

The next song had a beginning part that almost was hurting my ears and that was with earplugs.  Luckily it stopped and became very interesting from then on. After one more song they were done.  This time seeing them was the best yet, though there is no clear reason why, except perhaps for the new music they played.  Best time or not, it is always a good show.
