Opening Act For Pinback

Bellini, a band named after an Italian composer, came on later than expected.  There was only one opener, not counting the band in the atari lounge, so another band could have played during that wasted time, but oh well.  Perhaps they waited until more came since there was more than one person asking when Pinback plays, despite the sign put up by the entrance that said, "Don't ask stupid questions."

When they came on there was only three men who played without vocals.  It was an okay song that had the bassist setting the rhythm and the guitarist seemed like he was just jamming around it.  The next one was a bit more normally structured and the woman that was in the back of the stage in the corner, staring out in a creepy and almost evil way, came on and sang.  When she came on though she lost that scary vibe and introduced the band.  The following song had a nice start, but during most of the song the bass just blared in an almost haphazardly way.  There was a couple sudden changes that stepped up the song to a new level.  It had a tightly executed ending.

Later someone shouted "Conflict!" A band member replied, "Corn Flakes?"  It made me laugh.  After a few catchy songs there was a really mellow one.  They thanked Pinback and played one last short song.  They lived up to their indie/math rock labels and did it in a great way.
