Cold Cave (1) 9/4/2009
Opening Act For Glass Candy

Sitting through the Cold Cave set at the Casbah, I once, twice, three times wondered if I was at an Emo show. Like, a raging, burning emo show. All the signs were there, male lead singer with a black, flock of seagulls hair cut, singing really ominous sounding melodies. There was another guy hunched over a keyboard bobbing up and down, and two girls, with the tight pants/oversized tank tops, long dark hair with bangs look: one on the keyboard, the other on the guitar.

Cold Cave played half slow songs and half upbeat songs. The slow songs I thought were boring, and the upbeat ones were ok. The sound was very electronic, very techno, and the beginning of each song sounded like the beginning of "Good Bye Horses" by Q Lazarus. It reminded me of Aquarius roller rink in the 80s and/or video games. I couldn't tell if they were trying to be sad and serious, or cool and ironic. They had a few technical difficulties, causing the lead singer guy to keep staring in worry towards the sound board. The place was packed though, and people were moving around. All in all it was pretty good.
