I saw Dead Confederate perform live earlier this year in March at South by Southwest. They were part of the Athens showcase at Stubbs with REM headlining. It was a great show and the reason I came out to see them at the Casbah.
Before the show Dead Confederate stopped by one of our local radio stations (94.9) to perform a couple songs in their studio along with an on air interview. I was still at work and able to catch most of it. It was good. And interesting to hear those songs performed without the drums.
The band came on earlier than expected because the second opening band’s (Apollo Sunshine) van caught on fire. I believe they were ok because Hardy didn’t say otherwise. It was another great show with non-stop rock. Some of the songs have a Nirvana vibe to them (Heavy Petting) while others are a bit different (The Rat). I prefer the others, but don’t dislike any of them.
There was a lot of energy on the stage from all the guys which is always great to see. The drummer was so full of energy that his ride cymbal paid the price or has been for a while now. That poor thing had all sorts of cracks and missing pieces around the edge. I contributed to the “new cymbal fund” by purchasing their new album “Wrecking Ball” after the show. I’m still working my way through it, but really like what I hear so far.
