San Diego pop band Gray Ghosts came on stage for an extended sound check. It was longer than normal for The Casbah, but not as long as the next band would take. One of the Gray Ghosts sound checks for the microphone sounded like this: "I am Kevin Gossett. I have low self-esteem. I look better in pictures than in person." When they did get started their first song was not bad. It was the keyboards and singer that were making the song though. After a so so song they played one where the drummer and guitarists shared an "oops" smile with each other after a slightly noticeable mistake. The song was still better than the last one. After this they went more mellow. The following song finally had the keyboardist, Kelly Duley, bringing out the violin I had seen on stage. After doing a cover that sounded more distinct than their own music, they finished with a not bad song and left me decently satisfied. They were not entirely departed from the headliner's musical style, but it was not blatantly clear why they were an opener for them. For the next band it would be more obvious.
