[Jay Reatard]

Jay Reatard is legit. They remind me of those neighborhood kids that want to start a band and end up being pretty good. Those kids were never in my neighborhood, but you get the point.

Comprised of three dudes, lead, bass, drums, the band brings a very rebellious vibe to the table. As they set up, this lady and her three fat friends moved right in front of my viewing hole. I thought this to be extremely rude, but was even more taken aback when those four women proceeded to force a lone fan out of her place in front of the stage, so that they may have a better spot. Right when I was about to say something, Jay Reatard gets on the mic and shouts “Fuck Earthman and Strangers for fucking up my amp” and the crowd cheers. Ah-ha. There’s no comradery, politeness, manners. No, people. This is Jay Reatard. They don’t give a fuck, and neither do their fans. In fact, fuck me for even bringing this up, right?

Right.

Upon first song, the bass was spitting on the front row of fans. Like, spraying the crowd as he wildly “rock-danced” on stage. Every time the drummer moved, I could see his ENTIRE fury ass. To say the least, these are not the guys a girl wants to go out with, but they are the guys you listen to after a rough day, making sure to blast their songs as you cut people off on the freeway, while occasionally flashing the bird to whoever has enough balls to get mad at you. Jay Reatard has this soothing, stress relieving therapy to their punk music. They don’t give a fuck about anything, nor do they care, whereas the non-rockster has about a billion things to worry about. It through the music of Jay Reatard that the non-rockster  can be that cool bad-ass he wishes he could be. Or that fat lady who gets up enough courage to block people’s view. (loud sigh)

I liked their music. It’s up-tempo, its catchy, its creative. Their attractive sound mixed with their unattractive appearance makes them a very likable band. Somehow, even though I enjoy listening to The Man, going to work everyday, and doing my hair, there’s a part of Jay Reatard that even I could relate too. A punk band that can find fans in even the most unsuspecting people is pretty awesome.
