Opening Act For Sleeping People

Little White Teeth is a three-piece San Diego band that I was not expecting.  They did not fit in with the lineup, but they were a wonderful surprise.  They set up their instruments along with an old wooden chair that the guitarist briefly used later in the set.  Their indie pop sound was mostly mellow and that is how they started.  The next song was a nice 2/2 number that was followed by one that required the guitarist, Dmitri, to sit.  He seemed to need to do so in order use his feet for the song's guitar looping.  This song stood out more than the last two.

The following song went even mellower than before, but also had the singer/bass player, Phil, performing much stronger vocally and it was great.  After he first put those pipes to their best use it was something to hope for in every song.  His voice was used in a lamenting way, but it was also powerful.  After the song Phil asked for the lights down since it was making things too warm on stage, but then he and Dmitri were struggling to read their set list on the floor.

The fifth song had verses that were personally much more interesting than the chorus, but it was still a good one overall.  A couple songs later there was a romantic song that had the repeating lyrics, "I love you more."  On the last song the drummer, Yuko, played a small blow keyboard in the beginning, but soon returned to her drums.  Little White Teeth did an awesome job of keeping the music interesting most of the time with out doing anything crazy to do so.  They played their good stuff at The Casbah before, but I hope they come back again soon.
