Louis XIV has been reviewed by everyone from New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, Esquire, etc, and Rolling Stone magazine called them one of the “top ten bands to watch in 2005.” I also couldn’t find a review that didn’t talk about them being “oversexed,” which maybe goes hand in hand with their glam rock style. There is a lot of dramatics in the music of Louis XIV, and I think anyone who listens to them, or sees them live, would appreciate their talent. They took the stage like seasoned veterans, with an air of a band that will be opening up for the Killers on a European tour come February.Louis XIV stays true to the monarch of whom they are named after. Their sound is reminiscent of 1970s David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, or even The Darkness, and yet remains original and fresh. The flair for drama in their music is unmistakable, with out being too gimmicky. Still with songs like “Air Traffic Control” you wonder if they are pushing it a little too close to “Space Oddity.” However, I always like a band that shares lead vocals between members. Their show was fun and they definitely made a fan out of me.
