Opening Act For Manic Hispanic

There are few bands and/or artists that successfully mix two completely different musical genres and sound good at it.  Dropkick Murphy’s with their traditional Irish jigs with bagpipes mix incredibly well with straight forward punk.  Miri Ben-Ari is a virtuoso violinist who combines classical music with hip hop beats.  And although you can distinctively tell the difference in both genres mixed, Mex blurs those lines to make a unique sound of their own.  Take typical tejano throw it in a blender, add in hard rock, and you’ve got Mex.  The music merges so well that you can’t separate the two.  Included this five piece band are two guitarists and an accordion.  Yeah, an accordion—now pair that with hard rock guitar riffs and you’d be surprise how well it works.  A definite party band with a rebellious attitude, Mex is incredible live! Tan chido!  For their Casbah show, they were planted between two punk bands and still gained the respect all of the tattooed, pierced listeners.  They started off with “Lowrider” and “Wholly Bully” para todos los wedos just to get the crowd warmed up.  Original songs like “Hey Baby, Que Paso” and “If You Got the Dinero” got the punks raising their tequila shots in approval.  And as one of the Spanglish fans told me with a smile, “No puede ser una cinta verdadera mexicana sin jugar pinche La Bamba.”  Which, of course, they played La Bamba.  For Cinco de Mayo weekend, Mex is the perfect party music.
