Pinback (1) 11/16/2009

Pinback came on late, though so did the opener.  Rob Crow had mentioned about things being broken.  I was hoping he did not mean their equipment.  There was some technical issues that delayed them for a few moments.  It turned out to be a switch in the off position.  Finally they began and it was an old song to start, Byzantine.  Rob looked exhausted before the show, but all of them on stage were putting out a solid set.  It ended up being one of the best (though not the very best) times I had seen Pinback.  That is out of over twenty times.

The only complaint I would have is the way "Good to Sea" was done.  Rob's singing was almost like a parody of his own song, but not at quite a point where it would ruin the song.  It is hard to point out faults in your favorite musician, but it must be done.  That was the extent of my personal criticism besides a cough during a song from Rob that made Zach smile.  I think that actually added to the song.

As always, they played their songs faster which is partly to get more songs in.  They did play a good amount of songs, over twenty, though on the encore they had listed Gray Machine as a maybe.  They did not play their eleven minute song though.  What a shame.  They did not play the song that a fan added to one of the set lists either.  By the end it was one in the morning and I was dead tired from a constant lack of sleep already.  From Pinback though, I would have taken a double set.  It's never enough.
