Opening Act For Goblin Cock
[Pleaseeasaur]

Pleaseeasaur is a band that I hesitate to call a band.  This is not a question of deciding if JP Hasson's music is worthy, but trying to define what exactly to call his act.  While most bands need to set up their guitars, keyboard and so on, JP is setting up a large wall of a projector display screen and a glittery silver curtain.  While he is changing behind the wall he has set up, we are left waiting with a video projection of traveling through a corridor of clouds.  Finally he is ready and the music changes and tells us in a commanding Wizard of Oz voice to prepare ourselves and not try to understand the amazing experience that is about to happen to us.

JP walks through the glittering curtain in what could be a Goblin Cock costume, though wearing a kind of robot mask.  The projector changes to show the Pleaseeasaur monicker and then suddenly the music changes and he casts off the mask and black robes and underneath we see he is wearing a sort of red super hero Pleaseeasaur costume.   After speaking JP then throws down his clothes and is left with a jumpsuit that looks like a fake tuxedo.  This leads him into the first real song which is No Prob Limo, all about a Limo service.  Like all his songs, it is sung in a cheesy voice that delivers a comedy routine with the aid of images from the projector which are actually crucial to pulling off a good performance.  I do not know how anyone without this imagery could fully appreciate his music, but that is all a part of his act.

Pleaseeasaur was entertaining the crowd though, and continued to a song about what sequel to the movie LA Nights would be like.  This song involved JP pulling out a lei magician style from his clothing and putting it on.  His lounge/infomercial style singing was again put on strong and would be ever present through the whole show.  The next song he put on a sports jacket and wig for his Action City News song which seemed to poke fun of how News shows work these days, though my favorite line was "Channel 11, we're number one twice."  After this we were related to a display of zebra and flower design tights worn with an oversized sleeveless shirt with an eagle covering the front which was worn for a song about working out.  The fifth song featured JP in an abominable snowman suit, though for some reason was used for the song Cobra's are Cool, which seemed to teach the lesson to not mess with cobras.  Another obvious lesson was given next with a song about the dangers of strangers, though included the lyrics, "Strangers have the best candy."

The crowd seemed to enjoy his comedy, though a couple songs later there was a part of a song that had the lyrics of "Just sit around" and featured an image of a man in a wheelchair which is not the most offensive image one could put up for two seconds, but when you have someone in a wheelchair right next to you as I did, it can make for an awkward situation.  I would have not found it funny either way though.  Luckily after the song the person clapped as if he did not notice or was too far gone in his drinking to care.

A few songs later after different costumes, even a mixture of a few of them, JP reached the last song and announced that this might be the last Pleaseeasaur show in San Diego because he has gotten into a deal with Comedy Central.  The project is tentatively titled "Tanya Obvious" by Rob Crow of the Headliner Goblin Cock, but JP said he is not sure if he likes the name for the show.  This is a great achievement, though could be considered to be an emphasis on Pleaseeasaur as a comedy routine over a musical one.  Whatever you want to define JP's act as though, it is a funny and entertaining experience if you get his humor.  He will be missed, at least as a live show.
