Opening Act For These Arms are Snakes

My first introduction to a live PRE show was unlike any other. Originally from London, PRE is a progressive punk quartet, with a tiny female lead singer with a huge screeching voice. PRE seemed to have a good rapport between themselves, joking back and forth in between songs, making the crowd feel like we were all in on the joke and wonder who’s sleeping with who. The band calls themselves, “exceedingly good keex - sing, j. art webb - guitar sing, kevin hendrix - bass sing, matthew p. warburton - bass, richard p. bennett - drum .” Their energy was magnetic, and they harnessed it in for their performance. There was a lot of screaming on the part of exceedingly good keex, and slamming anarchy on the guys’ parts. The whole thing was a big fuck you, with “love” songs with lyrics such as “I want your penis, I want your love.”  It was like an aerobics video on crack. By mid show exceedingly good keex had stripped down to a sparking black bikini top and bottoms, with black tights on top. She danced in the crowd shaking her ponytail in a way that was like some sort of adrenalin meter. The crowd was into it, or scared, or both: rocking out where they stood. There was no moshing, though, but there was a good deal of violent Euro dancing. It’s a fun live experience, definitely worth seeing.
