[New Year's Eve with Steve Poltz]

I've known of Steve Poltz since I moved to California in 1995, but never became familiar with his music. Apparently, he wrote at least one of Jewel's songs (You were meant for me) and maybe more. I'm not sure. That's the extent of my Steve Poltz knowledge.

This cat is quite the character. Who ever coined the term Folk Rock must have seen Steve perform live and then came up with it. He was going to town with his acoustic guitar bobbing his head like nobody's business. And he's one of the most animated dudes you'll ever see. There is no question Steve is the one having the most fun in the room. And it was fun to watch too.

A good majority of his tunes seem to be of the comical nature.  A couple of songs that stood out were "We're dropping bombs" and "I'll never let go of you." "We're dropping bombs" was pretty high energy and clearly politically driven, while "I'll never let go of you" was sentimental.

Steve Poltz is a comedian in the rock and roll world. His lyrics, mannerisms, and his personality are all about entertainment. He's a solid singer, a very good guitar player, and a great lyricist who really knows how to put music together and make it pleasing to all audiences. As Jason says, Steve's music can be very politically driven. He's dead set against the war in Iraq as far as I can tell and he writes good music in a comical way to tell you about his thoughts. This guy is just hilarious and about as entertaining as it gets.
