The Dirtbombs (1) 8/26/2009

I was really disappointed by the Dirtbombs’ show. The band has been around since the mid nineties, originally from Detroit, and have a great funk rock sound, with two drum kits. I had my expectations set high, but they got off to a very bad first impression. First, they didn’t even go on until 11:45, and then the vocals were off and awful. The harmonies were painful, and noticeably bad. So that ruined it for me from the get go.

If you look passed that, the music was funky, and it was loud. It was a very crowded show, and people seemed really excited to see them. But The Dirtbombs were popular for a minute in 2006 and they seem to be still living off that success instead of bridging the gap to now. It’s also kind of telling when they are opening for successful bands that at one point opened for them.

It makes me wonder if maybe they couldn’t hear their monitors or something, because it was extremely loud. It’s a shame because The Dirtbombs seemed like they could have had an otherwise enjoyable live performance, but I couldn’t get passed the vocals.
