Opening Act For Dead Confederate

I’ve got mixed feelings on the “dueling” vocals. The set started off with one guy (Kane) singing the first song then Matthew took over the vocal duties for a bit with Kane behind the drum set. Kane sang at least one more song (while behind the drums), maybe two. This creates a lost identity for the band or at least in this case it did for me.

Another example of this would be Uncle Tupelo. You’ve got two completely different vocals (Jeff Tweedy & Jay Farrar). Personally, I’m a big fan of Jay, but don’t care for Jeff. I would listen to the songs Jay sung on those albums but skip Jeff’s. Since I’m not familiar with The Northstar Sessions music it wasn’t yet a choice, but felt odd during the live show.

The music was pretty good. The one song that caught my attention was titled “World’s apart.” Also, I was impressed with Matthew’s guitar skills.

Northstar sessions was pretty good overall. As in Jason's review I felt that the dueling vocals were very strange. I felt that one singer was stronger than the other and although they were solid in many aspects (bass and especially guitars were very good) they are not a band that will make it to the next level without tightening up the singing and coming up with a little more interesting music. The guitarist was excellent but not a band I'd see as a headliner.

I thought the show was good, it was my first time seeing them. The dual vocals don't bother me, some of my favorite bands had multiple singers (The Band, Delaney & Bonnie etc.). Dead Confederate sounded great as well, looking forward to seeing The Northstar Session play again.
