A four piece of young san diego locals took the stage. All standing, even the drummer. Then there it was, it caught my eye, the longest floor tom i had ever seen. About the height of a 9 year old it stood, a 9 year old just about to get pounded upon for the sake of the music. Garage rock at it's finest. The beats were quick and light but all rock n' roll baby. They began the show with 'Bright Side, a catchy summer single that makes you feel right at home. The guitar distortion rips and squeals while the whole band leans into their mics for the appropiate "whoa whoas." Backup vocals were an often and well executed tool as a catchy hook in their verses. 'Extinction', a great surf song. My favorite tune they played. The sound of the singers vocals are easy going and easy to like. The song is near damn perfect. The warm squeaking guitar solo is at its best radiating through the amplifier as the soft rhythm section gently coerces you to move your body. A fan of surf rock or not, one has to appreciate the catchy sonofabitch's fun guitar licks. Great dancing music, fun and enjoyable. They ended their show with 'Parasite,' a song I had just recently heard on satelite radio. It starts off with another great and fun bass riff, the driving force of the group, then is layered with licks upon licks. Great toe tapping tunes. Their set would fit a soundtrack perfectly intended for a night of drinking, dancing, and partying. JOB WELL DONE i'd say.
