Tombs is a metal and hardcore band from Brooklyn New York. They took the stage to a full crowd (rare for the first opener) and began with a smoke machine, seemingly set on low that spat out more now and then through the show. There was a chain of bullets hanging off the tom hardware, to show us they are hardcore I am to assume. Everyone had tattoos, even the drummer who had large back tattoos that could not be seen until he turned around at the end. He started with no shirt off the bat, because there was no reason to wait to take off a sweaty shirt. Also right away a guitar string broke, but in this type of music, it is hard to notice so he did not bother to replace it during the show. Most of the music was the simple strumming wave of sound that caused some good feedback many times. There was one fan who just could not get a good enough picture of the drummer. Every time he stepped up on stage, the guy moved a little closer and raised his camera up high to take a snap shot. It is refreshing to not see such an act result in security diving in and throwing someone out because they were a little annoying and have a slightly greater chance at harming the musicians which is a reasonable concern, but sometimes overdone. For one moment the drudgery of the repetitive nature of their music was interrupted by the drummer closing the hi-hat in part of a song. The last song gave a good haunting metal tone and after they thanked us, along with a few other incomprehensible words they were done. Tombs did their job as a hardcore band, but they did not have much noteworthy pieces of music. It is hard to truly stand out in any genre without also escaping it, but they could do better.
