The quartet from Sacramento, CA consists of Spencer, Sam, Lee, and Garrett. They are of the hardcore/thrash genre, and they sound exactly like it. In fact their picture should be next to "hardcore punk" in the dictionary. After two nights of Casbah mania, all of which were shows claiming to be “hardcore,” I was yet to be impressed. Where was the moshing? The crowd surfing? The terror? I finally found what I was looking for with Trash Talk. The night before I had seen a solid euro punk band with a female vocalist, and a prog punk band with a mediocre front man, but Trash Talk’s front man–Lee–was a dazzling, however frightening, combination of both. For one, he has more hair than I do—which borders on mane status. He was thrashing, as the genre would imply, around the stage, and on the floor, seemingly possessed by dark forces. Things got a little weird when the hair parted and his forehead was stained with blood. This must’ve really depressed Lee, because he proceeded to wrap the microphone cord around his neck, all set to chest hammering earsplitting guitar bass and drums. I was afraid I might be a part of an animal sacrifice. By the end of the night, Lee was flung onto the speakers one too many times, and got kicked out. Now that’s getting my money’s worth. Aside from complete and utter insanity, there were no gimmicks to Trash Talk’s music, in fact there was a hint of soul. Even though the sound is harsh, it is clean and pure, not that you’re really paying attention during their show. Trash Talk released their album "East of Eden" on March 23, 2009, which is available for purchase on their website, trashtalkhc.com
