[Surprisingly good show by John Mayer]

Took my wife to this show for our wedding anniversary. I wasn't too excited about it.  I like his music, but never really liked it too much. Kinda lumped him into the Jack Johnson or Dave Mathews genre which is really good but not stuff I get really into.  A woman named Colbie Caillat opened 2nd and she was pretty solid. Never heard of her but very talented.  John Mayer's band has a lot of depth in musical ability.  I was most impressed by his ability to write and orchestrate his own music but his blues riffs and guitar playing ability was incredible.  I was definitely shocked and impressed at his obvious blues roots influences.  Very good concert, at a great venue.

I agree, John has some skills when it comes to playing the guitar. He opened up for Glenn Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket) several years ago at the Belly Up and there was no denying his talent with the guitar. I bought his album at the show, but never really got into it. And as talented as the guy is, I would never have thought he would achieve the mainstream success he has. Good for him.

Your Dave Mathews reference is spot on, I refer to John Mayer as the sappy Dave Mathews.
