Rise Against (1) 7/10/2009

I've become quite familiar with Rise Against over the last five months. Before then it was just the hits that I heard on the radio. I like what I heard mind you, but after listening to the last three albums I was pleased to find that the albums are filled with even better songs than the ones that got the radio air time. One of my personal favorites is "Drones", which they played. I'd compare Rise Against to Bad Religion or even go out on a limb and call them today's Bad Religion. Just like I think Strike Anywhere is similar to Pennywise. Either way, they're a solid band with really good music.

While they are listed as playing at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre, they actually performed in the parking lot...yeah, the parking lot. It was similar to when Lollapalooza, Street Scene or Warp Tour was here. It was an interesting sight with the couple small mosh pits just to the side and behind the sound booth.

They sounded really good, but I couldn't help but wonder how they would sound at an enclosed venue like the House of Blues. The contained energy of their music would be mind blowing, maybe next time.

This was a really good show. As Jason said, I think the venue was not perfect for them but it was an environment that warranted space for mosh pits. I really enjoyed this show and would certainly see them again in the future. They've got a great sound and their lyrics really mean something.
