Opening Act For NO Doubt
[The Sounds]

The Sounds have everything going for them except – well – their sound. They have an excellent image – a hot lady lead and even hotter gentlemen musicians, and lots of talent, but after their third song I began feel like I heard them somewhere before. Hmmm…?

And by the fifth song, I knew I had. The Sounds are a recreation of 80s synth-pop, very akin to the Thompson Twins, OMD, Gary Numan, and Ultravox. Personally, I’m not a fan, and I’m not quite sure why they would recreate such ridiculous music (Sorry folks!). By listening to them I was transported to the streets of Miami in a cheap suit right next to Tony Montana, while loosing my footing with Kevin Bacon, all the why applying hair spray to make sure my hair remained five feet tall.

They’re Swedes, so maybe they’re still 30 years behind us – who knows.

The vocalist could use a bit more diversity in her collage of on-stage-movements. Her routine  pretty much followed this line-up: Sing-High kick-Butt shake -Low squat-High kick-Sing I sigh loudly. Moving on….

The pianist/guitar would occasionally play his lifted his guitar high in the air – very dramatic, kind of like, what is it…oh ya, 80s syn bands. And the others popped around like popcorn. I wasn’t the least impressed. It’s like these people just caught a thirty year old rerun of MTV, copied what they saw, and made a band, which is unacceptable, especially when you’re opening up for No Doubt, but that’s probably just my intelligent bias speaking.

I’m not a fan of The Sounds, but I sure my dad would be. I recommend you check them out on myspace, but don’t waste your money.
