It seems that a handful of San Diego bands are getting some buzz these days. Grand Ole Party is one of them. They recently played Coachella and were "featured" in the May issue of Spin Magazine for the City Guide section. The City Guide section is close to the back of the magazine and highlights Bars and Clubs, Local Heroes, Bands and some history for a particular city. So, obviously this month is San Diego. I checked their schedule a week or so ago, saw the Ken Club gig and decided to go.

The evening turned out to be a fairly long one. The first band didn't go on until 10pm which put Grand Ole Party on stage at midnight. It was worth the wait. This cute unassuming girl (Kristin) sits behind the drums and once they began to play she transforms. One would never think a voice like that would come out of her. It was quite impressive. Also, she's a pretty good drummer too, which added to the dynamics of the performance. The venue was full and the crowd was pretty familiar with the music. There was quite of bit of movement (with some dancing) and then a lot of applause after each song. GOP is definitely a band you should see live.
