My girl and I stopped in to Maison Bourbon and listened to Jamil and his band for about 40 minutes. The band included Jamil – on trumpet, a sax player, pianist, bass player and drummer.  Most of the songs were set up so the pianist, sax guy or Jamil were playing a solo while the drummer and bass player kept the foundation. This meant that 2 of those 3 players were standing doing nothing for a good portion of the songs. The drummer and bass player got to bust out their own solo at one point also. Jamil got a little crowd participation with people clapping during some of the songs and a little sing a along on Boogie Woogie Blues (“he likes to boogie…she likes to boogie…we like to boogie.”) He had a couple moments that were superb, but overall the performance was just pretty good. His father is World Renowned Trumpeter Emery Humphrey Thompson (Umar Sharif) and he is an accomplished musician.
