This is why we live in New York. The monthly One Step Beyond party thrown by Flavorpill in the Hayden Planetarium at the Museum is something different. Going in to the Museum after hours makes you feel like some sort of privileged socialite and the planetarium itself feels like you are in a movie when the party is going. The sound and lights are really well done, and partying in the middle of the museum, with gigantic meteors, space holograms and photos from the moon landing all around just makes it extra fancy. They keep the actual planetarium itself open for showings during the party, in case you want to relax and take a break from dancing. There is no cash handled at this party, so you have to buy tickets for Beer or Wine, or Soda or Water, from a ticket machine. Beer or wine is about 6 bucks and Soda or water is about 3, which is not bad considering. There are bars on the balconies around the main floor and on the main floor itself, with a small but decent selection. I say it would be worth it to go to any of these parties, because the venue really makes it special, but especially go to see an act you like.
