The Soda Bar is a nice little venue, though in a not so nice area.  There is usually not any big bands, but sometimes there are good ones and you can't go wrong with their low to no cover charge.  The place it divided in half so that the entertainment area is on one side and the bar on the other.  They also have a pool table in the back and art hanging on one side of the place.  I have not had any bad experiences here, but if you call and expect anyone answering the phone to know much about the night's bands or the cover, you may be disappointed.  The stage is also small, so I feel sorry for the bands, but it's not my problem so, oh well.

Joel P West (1) 11/18/2009

Joel P West is one of those names that I’ve heard associated with the San Diego music scene for quite some time. I didn’t know anything about him, but I thought I probably wouldn’t like him. In my mind he was like John Mayer, a guy with an acoustic guitar... Full Review

The Glossines (1) 7/12/2009

There is not enough to say about the Glossines. Seriously, there is not enough to give a full review. They are a couple of girls with a guy drummer named Poptart. They thanked the remaining audience for staying late and began their set. It was straight... Full Review

Dramady (1) 7/12/2009

Opening Act For Glossines
Dramady is a band from Portland, Oregon and is made up of Zacery Stanley and Amanda Wiles. They had a long set up and a lot of the few who attended the show had left before they started. When they did begin I was impressed by Stanley's skill at playing... Full Review

Bunky (1) 7/12/2009

Opening Act For Glossines
San Diego band Bunky had a long set up which would seem contrary to their stripped down form of the night. They had no horn section and so had to make horn noises with their voices. Toward the end they would finally comment on the horn's absence.... Full Review

Lion Cut (1) 7/12/2009

Opening Act For Glossines
Lion Cut is a husband and wife duo that are all about cats. If you do not catch onto this from their cat outfits you would from their lyrics. There was a lot of feedback from the woman's violin, but it was eventually fixed. A party pack of Mounds... Full Review

Rob Crow (1) 5/8/2009

Opening Act For Sleeping People
Rob Crow, the man of a million bands graced The Soda Bar with his presence. He started off unfortunately with a tuner problem and was forced to wing it. There were sound problems most of the time with the guitar or his vocals too quiet. Something was... Full Review

Hialeah (1) 5/8/2009

Opening Act For Sleeping People
Hialeah opened the night at The Soda Bar. There was a guy from another band helping on stage who showed his butt crack. One of his friends took a picture and showed another laughing. This would be brought up again later. Bassist Mike Pereirasaid said... Full Review

Feever Sleeves (1) 4/3/2009

Fever Sleeves is self described as "a hardcore version of an indie rock band, or math rock with melody". The trio started sound checking with lead singer, Tony Gidlund, playing some Metallica which received a "woo!" from someone in... Full Review

Empty Rooms (1) 4/3/2009

Opening Act For Feever Sleeves
Empty Rooms started their set with an interesting instrumental that coincided with an odd smoke coming from the pool table area. Ready to evacuate, nothing happened and there was no smell to the mysterious cloud, so I continued watching the San Francisco... Full Review

By Sunlight (1) 4/3/2009

Opening Act For Feever Sleeves
By Sunlight is an indie band from Seattle, Washington that started off with one of the four guys saying, "Gonna get my groove on." His grooving was delayed though by some technical need which they said would be a minute and so music from the... Full Review
