Alberta Cross hails from New York, though a couple band members have England and or Sweden origins. The Swedish flag gave some hint of that fact as it was raised and waved during the performance. They were one of the first acts on the first day of Coachella, so while it was nearing the hottest time of the day, it was the least hot day of the weekend. Still, the temperature was not cold, making it odd to see the singer, Petter Ericson Stakee, wearing three layers of shirts and vests. They started quick with a decent amount of people finally at the stage with a good song where everyone sang. The press crowded around during the second song and it was a bit annoying, but they would disperse later. The third song was a new one that was not as interesting as the first two, but was okay. Stakee switched guitars for the next song which was more melancholic and blues influenced as before and therefore, for some unexplainable reason, better. The following song was mellow and did not go anywhere and then was preceded by a floor tom driven song that was good and gloomy. After this one they went to a more aggressive song than the last few, but had a mellow part that gave the drummer time to adjust the height of the ride cymbal.Stakee said they were, "Going to try a gospel if you want to clap" and the other guitarist took over the keyboard, while the original keyboardist played the smaller one on top of it. Stakee sang high and just played the tambourine for the repetitive but good song. The next and last song went out to Austin, Texas and was not bad. The set overall was a good start for the outdoor stage, though it was odd to see the stage lights changing colors and moving around during the day. Alberta Cross is a solid band and even if it was night time and the lights made sense, they would not have needed them.
