Calexico started by telling the crowd the long route they took to get to Coachella and began after telling all to enjoy the show. The first song was a pretty good one from the Tucson, Arizona band. They followed it with a new one called "Man Made Lake" and said it was a fitting song for where we were now. The song had a nice hook, but I was distracted by two band members’ plaid shirts that were the kind that curved and are meant to be tucked in but were not, but that is my own issue. The next song was an upbeat one where the trumpet players now stood together which pleased my own OCD needs. They made a salute to "Cuba's president" for the next song. The music was not bad, but the crowd did not seem very into it. There was finally some more emotional music with another new one called "Two Silver Trees" which was slightly melancholic. They then played a decent instrumental. The music was well done, but something was lacking. There was an oomph missing from most of the songs. While the seven piece band made it have a full sound, more dynamics are expected when working with that many parts. There were a couple failed attempts to get people to clap and the reaction was all in all very underwhelming. The band did get people to clap on the very last song though. They are a good band, but usually lack the hooks that get people going. They should not have to do so as this does not constitute good music, but it is unfortunate they may always be underappreciated as the solid band that they are.
