My Bloody Valentine, or My Bloody Mess, My Bloody Nightmare, or most literally My Bloody Ears. What a disaster. Yes, they are different in the sense that most people have sense to avoid using the same technique every song and yes they have had a strong influence on many other bands, but they all turned out far better than this so called genius piece of garbage. You can say that the lyrics are brilliantly intertwined in the music so you do not know where they end and the music begins, or you can be real and say, hey, I can barely hear the vocals, much less understand them. The "talent" seems more accidental and it all just comes together to be a mass of noise that has some kind of music hidden beneath that is suffocated by the droning senseless sounds. Not even admitting that gives the music any sort of justice. At first it seemed like the sound guy had fallen asleep, but no, it was all MBV and was exactly what they intended. Most people were silent, but at the end of the "songs" many people cheered. Why!? Were they on drugs? Many most likely. The only reason they should enjoy that is that they are high and are hearing something completely different. Perhaps they had reached some sort of higher consciousness that allowed them to enjoy the music? May I never ever ever ever ever ever reach that point of delusion. I enjoy staying down here in reality just fine. There were some on the boat with me, calling for MBV to get off the stage so The Cure could come on.A sound guy came on stage a few times, giving some false hope the sound would improve, but the outcome was far worse than I could imagine. For what felt like an eternity, MBV played a song that was, as more than one person described, like a jet was hovering over the crowd. This "masterpiece" that sounded the same from one moment to the next apparently just had to go minutes past their set time. It broke into "music" at the end and then was over. They said "Thank you", but I thanked them for finally ending the torture. Coachella had tried and failed to get MBV to attend the festival several times until now, but may they never ever ever ever ever ever come back. To be fair, the recordings are not as bad, but that is not what I am reviewing.
