After a quick sound check, San Diego singer-song writers Aaron Bowen and Lee Coulter started a few minutes early with the song "When The Fall of Rome", a name very similar to another group playing at Indiefest. The music was not the same as the band "The Burning of Rome" of course, but was acoustic pop on banjo and guitar. There was also some vocal imitation of a trumpet from Bowen. Bowen was described by Coulter later as making him want to be weird. You could tell by their separate musical styles that Bowen was more unique. The next song seemed to be decided on the spot as they talked among each other. Coulter simply sat as Bowen did the song "Strawberry Wine" in his often high rising voice. The next song Coulter thanked Bowen for inviting him to play at Indiefest and he performed one of his own songs, "Like they Used to. The music sounded more upbeat and commercial. One corny line, "And it feels so right holding you in the moonlight" was decently balanced by the next words, "I guess some things are better, baby, in black and white". Bowen added some banjo and a short fake trumpet solo to the music. Coulter followed this song with "Booty Voodoo". He then played "She Fell in Love with the Mirror", a simple song about a girl caring too much about her looks. After a Coulter song called "Yoga Master" that lightly poked fun at yoga, the two musicians said they thought they only had twenty minutes to play, but realized that they had about twice that and said they would continue. Now and then there were humorous looks exchanged between the two which told that some of Bowen's playing was improvised. Coulter finished their set with a song that he made for his girlfriend to play in her jeep while she was back home in America, after she left him in his own home country of Australia. After eight months apart he moved to be with her and they now have been married five years and have a child together. This is a beautiful sentiment to end a pleasant performance.
