MC Flow (1) 3/28/2009
  Venue: North Park

One of the last performers of the night, MC Flow took the stage a little late as the previous band went slightly over their time, but even more damaging was the lack of organization at the stage venue.  Too many people wanted to come in and so they had to force Indiefest goers to group together and sit down in the chairs so they could apparently count how many more they could let in. This was poorly done and took a good chunk of time from the band.  MC Flow would have none of this, rhetorically asking if there was a rule against standing up and said this was a hip hop show and that we do not sit down for these things, calling up the crowd who soon gathered in the front of the stage.

MC Flow suddenly remembered to introduce the band after the second song, which included fellow rapper Taylor-Tay, DJ Rob Fayder and their dancer, GG.  She was wearing a face design in blue makeup and what was first called a leotard, but was corrected as a bikeatard.  The first song had an error from the DJ who accidentally stopped the music for a second or two, which was more amusing than annoying from the two rapper's reactions.  The third song was not as catchy as the first two, but was still good stuff.  During the end of the song they were given the five minute warning from the Indiefest crew.  This was upsetting news, but MC Flow tried to make the best of it by saying they would try to do a couple more songs in that time.  The next song was back up to the level set by the first two.

The last song was "Dominate".  It is certain they did not intend the ironic use of the name as the band's sound was cut off in the middle of the song.  The band looked to the sound people in the back in angry disbelief.  Taylor-Tay flipped them off repeatedly saying words I will not repeat (though thoroughly appropriate) and the crowd was equally upset.  A chant of MC Flow built up, though it was obvious no one was about to riot.  Still security and the police came into the stage room, adding a new level of ridiculousness to the handling of the event.  MC Flow was robbed stage time by the Indiefest's crew's incompetence and then they along with their fans were treated like riff-raff.  The bond of MC Flow's fans may have grown, but the night's disaster has seriously weakened the faith in what Indiefest represents.  If the callous Indiefest crew thought MC Flow was so good that the band only needed half their set list to wow and amaze, at least they were right about that.

The Indiefest crew was really annoying! I think they were the weakest part of the entire day. Especially the commentary by announcers in between gigs --- OMG --- I was so irritated. Sucks for MC Flow and the countless others who were irked by the crew!

I was really looking forward to checking out MC Flow's performance and was very disappointed that her set got cut short. Nonetheless, it was a great show but next time I hope to see her full set!
