Band of Horses (1) 8/28/2009
[Band of Horses]   Venue: East Village

"The Funeral. The Funeral, The FUCKIN FUNERAL MAN!!"

I edged up into the crowd completely lost at to what they were screaming. The funeral? "Hmm, whatever," I dumb-assedly thought to myself.

What a dumb ass I am.

"The Funeral" is probably the best song I've ever heard. Remember the first time you heard "Yesterday" by The Beatles and the tears moistened your eyes? Or "Creep" and you just knew that song was written for you? What about "Free Bird" or "All of My Love"? Those songs that everyone you know likes and you can't help but play it over and over and over again?

Yeah, you know.

Band of Horses it a talented mix and eccentrics, completely lost in their instruments, fixed on one set goal: to stir the soul of the crowd. Keys and a myriad of guitars -- electric, acoustic, bass constantly switching hands -- kept a cool, Eagles-esque, down-home harmony, while crashing percussion sent our hearts into a fluttery state that even 2 Red Bulls and a coffee couldn't induce. I wanted to run up stage and personally thank them for not only making my $70 ticket worthwhile, but my life worth living ;)

And for god's sake, please YouTube "The Funeral" asap.
