Carney (1) 8/28/2009
[Carney]   Venue: East Village

I walked up to Carney as they began to rev-up the Beatles' classic "I Want You (She's so Heavy)." Ah, so beautiful. Lennon couldn't have done it better himself. The lead ripped the vocal fluctuations into tattered ribbons, falling on his knees at one point just to better blow the song through the speakers. The winding curves of the song were titillatingly wrapped around the tuned chords of the rhythm and base. Dear god, I wanted to rip off my clothes right there and scream "Take me!" It was a absolutely gorgeous cover.

Once they had my attention, they then began to show their true, psychedelic, free-spirit and so very bad-ass colors. Their sound is a modern take of Led Zep, mixed with mysteria of dark grunge. Yikes! I was enthralled. Dark melodies, battle-field cadences and tortured vocals were consistent themes throughout the show and they sounded good! I mean really, really good! Carney opened to mind to the thought that maybe there still is some creative, talented artists out there. Def go and see 'em when you get the chance.
