[Tribal Music for the Masses]   Venue: Emo's

Before I came out for the festival, I spent some (serious) time trying to figure out who I wanted to see. It's a rather daunting task because of the shear volume of bands performing, but so far it has paid off...especially tonight. When I listened to Yeasayer on myspace their music really caught my attention.

Yeasayer is an interesting group of guys. The bass player looks like Donovan Frankenreiter but with really curly hair. Maybe it's the mustache that reminds me of him? The guitar player is Indian with long hair and he also plays the keyboard. The front man is a thin dude with a prominent red beard and the drummer looks like your average joe, no offense. What most interesting about these guys is the music they make. It's really good.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this was (or probably will be) the best show I see all year. It was truly a soulful experience that is difficult to put into words. The energy and vibe from the band was on point, from the erratic movements of the lead singer to the bass player putting his bass down to jump into the audience and dance. This is the first time I've been that moved by a live show in quite awhile. I hope they come to San Diego sometime soon especially after I have the chance to really dig into the album which I picked up at the show. I predict this band is going to be HUGE!
